Two wheels, one purpose – to thrill

Aggressive ‘motard’ styling and stance combine with Ducati ‘sportbike’ technology to deliver the best of both worlds. With a riding position that ensures total control, the  Hypermotard is ready to dominate every inch of asphalt with big-bore acceleration and road holding that redefines the street experience.

Hyper concept

The Hypermotard concept created an innovative segment that bridged the gap between sports bikes and supermotards. In essence, it took the high speed handling and smooth engine from a sport bike and combined it with the aggressive styling, lightweight minimalism and slow corner precision of a supermotard.

The result is an easy to handle motorcycle with unbelievable agility, sure-footed handing and a flexible engine that deals with city traffic just as easily as a spirited ride through winding mountain roads.

Hyper style

The Hypermotard is all about motorcycling enjoyment. Its upright riding position puts you in control and invites you to have fun with every twist of the throttle. It adjusts your riding style and raises your ability to a higher level, and the ‘feel’ that the lightweight, taut chassis transmits enables you to explore riding techniques that are simply not accessible on other sportbikes.

The Hypermotard’s mix of hyper-sports and supermotard heredity encourages a similar mix of riding styles and riding gear and has become a fusion of motorcycle lifestyles.

Hyper design

Minimalism and functionality have shaped and styled the Hypermotard, and its design sets it apart from the crowd. The line of its distinctive beak blending into the stylish headlamp fairing makes it instantly recognizable, while the carefully shaped tank that tapers into a skinny waistline gives a supermotard feel when aboard.

From the sturdy look of the Marzocchi front forks to the Ducati signature single-sided swingarm and underseat exhausts, the Hypermotard’s design remains unique and pure Ducati.

Hyper Story

When the prototype Hypermotard was shown at the 2005 Milan show it represented the creation of a new segment, one that bridged the gap between refined sportbikes and minimalist supermotards. But some at Ducati had reservations about the Hypermotard concept and were unsure if people were ready for such a motorcycle.

Despite those reservations, the project continued, driven by the belief in the upright and in-control riding position of a dirtbike, but not the harsh characteristics of its single cylinder engine. These confident few designed a bike that combined the agility and lightweight precision of a supermotard with the refined power characteristics of a charismatic L-Twin sportbike.

Ducati presented the prototype Hypermotard at Milan and was rewarded with a ‘Best of Show’ award. The innovative Hypermotard spawned a new ‘cross-over’ category that had pure riding pleasure with a practical and versatile motorcycle that could be used every day.

For 2010 there are more exciting new products in the Ducati Hypermotard range that now becomes a fully-fledged family of bikes. No longer just one, but three versions, designed to suit different needs, but each with the same specific objective: to provide excitement and fun. So here is the new, agile Hypermotard 796:

The new way to go Hyper

The Hypermotard 796 rides the common ground between manners and madness, mixing Ducati’s unrivalled twin-cylinder power and sportbike heredity with the lightweight and minimalist supermotard concept.

The newest Hypermotard features a 796cc engine that is a completely brand new, lightweight Desmodue power unit designed to provide the torquey, smooth and enjoyable character famous of all Desmodromic L-Twins.

This engine also features the APTC ‘wet’ clutch, which gives a ‘slipper’ type action that prevents destabilizing of the rear-end under aggressive down-shifting and also gives the extra benefit of a super-light feel at the lever, a great benefit in stop-start city traffic or during longer journeys. The oil-bath clutch represents a power-enhancing weight reduction over the ‘dry’ system as well as having a quieter operation and requiring less maintenance.

Lower seat height; At 825mm (32.5in), the seat height of the 796 is a sure-footed 20mm (0.8in) lower than the 1100.

Other features like; Trellis frame, lightweight 5 spoke wheels, innovative combination hand guard/ turn signal/ mirrors, LED turn signals and taillight, compact multifunction instrument with lap-timer, odometer, RPM and speed counter, 4 way adjustable levers, and many more features may have you thinking this Ducati is the perfect compagna for you! Available now in Pearl White, Red and Dark.

Hypermotard 1100 evo (evoluzione)

The 1100EVO further enhances the original Hypermotard concept of ‘ruling the road’, rolling out at an incredible 7kg (15.5lb) lighter and 5hp more powerful than the original, how was this achieved?

The Desmodue Evoluzione combines reduced weight and increased power to make it the perfect engine for the Hypermotard 1100EVO. New crankcases, a lighter crankshaft assembly and a new magnesium alternator cover combine with the use of lightweight rare-earth magnets in the alternator assembly to achieve the staggering weight reduction of  5.3kg (11.7lb). The clutch and alternator covers are finished in carbon grey for the 1100EVO and in gold for the 1100EVO SP.

A redesigned cylinder head with improved inlet port shape for optimum flow also combines a modified combustion chamber shape for improved burn efficiency. This improved efficiency is the result of a higher compression ratio and a new single spark per cylinder ignition, now managed by high-speed Siemens electronics has resulted in increased power over the rev range.

Constant investment in quality by design, advanced materials and engineering techniques has enabled a distance between service intervals of 12,000km (7,500 miles) making Ducati ownership even more enjoyable than ever. Available for 2010 in  the ever popular Rosso Red and Diablo Nero (Black)

Power & torque curves

Power is boosted by 5hp to 95hp (69.9kW) @ 7,500rpm with 76lb-ft (10.5kgm) of torque @ 5,750rpm giving it outstanding power delivery, from grunting low rpms to the singing howl at redline.

And if further weight reduction and more punch wasn’t already enough on a bike that was built to thrill, the Hypermotard 1100EVO SP pushes the limits even further with a model intended to perform on the track as well as the street;

More Hyper than ever

The 1100EVO SP takes the Hypermotard concept to a new level of extreme. Higher ground clearance, higher spec suspension, higher bars and less weight makes the SP track-ready for action.

Features like Brembo Monobloc brakes; Öhlins remote reservoir rear shock, fully adjustable for compression and rebound damping as well as spring pre-load; Brand new longer, black-bodied, fully adjustable 50mm Marzocchi forks have 30mm (1.2in) more travel and increase the SP’s ground clearance by 35mm (1.38in), extending the SP’s extreme cornering performance, 5-spoke Marchesini wheels, created from forged then machined alloy, both front and rear wheels are significantly lighter and create a lower moment of inertia and unsprung weight, resulting in improved acceleration and braking as well as quicker steering.

Combine this with racing type details like;

Serrated footpegs give increased boot grip during extreme conditions and a Teflon slider under each peg provides protection in extreme lean angles. The SP’s bar risers are finished in black along with the new Marzocchi forks, upper and lower fork clamps, footpeg carriers and pedals, exhaust guard, rear subframe and rear sprocket carrier. Add to this the liberal use of carbon fiber pieces (belt covers, fenders, fork protectors and side panels.

The Hypermotard 1100EVO SP is boldly finished in a choice of red-themed or white-themed Ducati Corse livery to underline its competition intention. Both colour schemes have red Trellis frames with black wheels and the new Ducati Corse logo proudly displayed on the Hypermotard’s beak section. This IS the ultimate Hypermotard; surely built and designed with but one mission; to Thrill!
